Lorraine Geldenhuys grew up on a farm outside Paarl which cultivated her love and passion for agriculture. Inspired by a rural upbringing and her mother who worked in the wine industry, she completed a BSc and MSc in Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch in 2008. In 2009 she moved to France to work as a winemaker in Chablis, which established her long term interest in French wines, culture and terroir. She always wanted to teach, returned to South Africa and joined Elsenburg College in 2011 as Winemaker & Senior Lecturer.
