Vineyards are covered with wild flowers as winter turns to spring in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Vaucluse department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Châteauneuf-du-Pape is France's first declared wine Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC), located alongside the Rhône river between Avignon and Orange.

A vineyard awakens from its winter dormancy in early spring on the outskirts of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône wine region in southeastern France. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation rules allow 18 grape varieties to be grown, mostly Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
